Films you should have watched in 2011 from Tamil

Unlike Hollywood or even Bollywood, there are no authentic collection figures or agency tracking movie revenues.
Everything in Kollywood as far as b-o collections are concerned has to be taken with not a pinch, but a spoon of salt. It is an industry driven by star fans who claim that every film of the star is a super hit and collections are more than any Hollywood blockbuster!
Under these circumstances, TamilKey has put together a top ten based on trade reports. We will not be reporting the actual figures, as every star worth his salt will go out of their way to prove that their film is a hit. Please note in an industry where actual figures are difficult to obtain, a flop can be made into a hit with a bit of star power thrown in.
Drawing up a list of commercially successful movies, Sify will only rate the film as a Blockbusters, Super Hits and Hits. These are the films selected after talking to trade analysts, theatre owners and distributors. You are welcome to disagree with the sify list.
BLOCKBUSTERS
Mankatha
Why Factor- The film became a blockbuster due to the star power of Ajith and his fantastic opening. Added to that it was a solo release and got a five-day holiday weekend.
Kanchana
Why Factor- A complete mass masala entertainer which had comedy laced with horror, glamour and sentiments. Worked wonders with lady audiences and kids, though it carried an 'A' certificate!
SUPER HITS
Ko – Correct mix of peppy songs, action, lush locales and KV Anand's content and packaging which was different.
Siruthai – The Karthi- Santhanam comedy combo clicked big time along with mass masala content. It proved that a remake of a proven hit with local nativity is always a safe bet.
Engeyum Eppothum- Debutant director Saravanan film on a bus accident with two parallel love stories with Jai- Anjali & Sarva- Ananya in the lead along with fresh music worked wonders.
HITS
Velayudham- Ilayathalapathy Vijay's one-man show had the audiences lapping it up.
7aum Arivu- Aggressive promotions and Suriya's charisma worked in favour of the film.
Deivathirumagal- Smart marketing, Vikram's life-like performance with wonder kid Sara clicked.
Aadukalam- Dhanush's award winning performance, Vetrimaran's script & GV's music helped.
Vaanam- STR's opening plus good content along with noted performances made the film a hit.
# Please note films like Kaavalan, Avan Ivan and Mayakkam Enna were moderate hits.

Heroine – Power list 2011

2011's power list (female) saw some ruthless oustings, deserved comeback and new entries.
Tamannaah, Trisha, Nayanthara, Shriya, Sneha and Reema did not figure anywhere in our list and a new bevy of young skilled huntresses were supposed to take over in 2011.
At the beginning of 2011, We gave a list of who the sexiest pin-up girl of 2011 in Kollywood will be? The young actresses who were contenders for Number one slot in 2011, in our list were Hansika, Shruti, Taapasee, Oviya, Karthika, Amala, Varalakshmi. But sadly, none of these girls could create a massive impact.
No one knows how to stay at the top better than Anushka. While it may be a tad mystifying as to how she is in our list, with just two average films Vaanam and Deivathirumagal, the answer may well lie in her sheer redoubtable star power. She is on the wish list of Rajini, Kamal to all top stars who want her to ink their projects. She is doing Karthi's untitled film directed by Suraj, Selvaraghavan's Irandam Ulagam with Arya, Vikram's AL Vijay actioner Thaandavam.
Kajal Aggarwal may not have a single release in Tamil in 2011, but she has emerged as Anushka's biggest competitor. She is doing films with two hot 'n'happening stars, Maatran with Suriya and Thuppakki with Vijay.
Hansika started the year with Maapillai, followed it up with Engeyum Kadhal and ended the year with the hit Velayudham. She came out with flying colours but is yet to be a part of a blockbuster hit. She has STR's Vettai Mannan and Udhayanidhi Stalin's Rajesh directed OKOK coming up for release, which is sure to take her places.
Lakshmi Rai made a wild card entry with two blockbusters Kanchana and Mankatha but it was Anjali, Ananya, Richa and Inaya who made an impact by proving that they can act and hold immense potential for 2012.
Amala managed to be a newsmaker who was able to create a buzz around her- be it her confidence factor, photo-shoot for magazines and her link-up with director Vijay. In Deivathirumagal, her only release in 2011 she had to play second fiddle to Anushka. 2012 looks promising for her with Vettai and Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal ready for release
Trisha proved that she is a big-budget survivor by being a part of the blockbuster hit Mankatha in which she had to share screen space with Lakshmi Rai and Anjali.
Taapsee's Aadukalam was her trump card but critics lambasted her Vandaan Vendraan which was a b-o turkey but one flop does not make or break a career. She is yet to sign any new projects in Tamil.
Shruthi Haasan had a dream debut with 7 aum Arivu, a role that was too heavy for the young girl to carry it on her tender shoulders. Shruti may have some proving to do on the acting chops front, but her screen presence is unmistakable. Her much-hyped Aishwarya Dhanush directed 3 releases in 2012 and that will be the real test.
Karthika was touted to make waves especially after her debut film Ko became a super hit. But there was no buzz around her and her decision to be too choosy and stay away from limelight made her a dampener. Oviya and Amy Jackson were wiped out while lady luck didn't smile at Varalakshmi in 2011 as her debut film Poda Podi is yet to be completed.
Nayanthara and Reema Sen did not have a single release and news about their impending marriage in 2012 has affected their market. Shriya who had a b-o turkey in Routhiram is sending feelers to all the directors but is yet to bag any project.
Tamannah had Siruthai a hit and Venghai in 2011 but the actess has more or less said goodbye to Kollywood and is concentrating in Telugu.

How to Choose Your Engineering College......?

EAMCET 2012: Selecting Best Engineering College and Branch

An individual who wants to reach a reputable position in his career has to choose right academics at right time. Everyone, whether it is an aspiring engineering student or just a college going candidate is having their own dreams to pursue a professional course in a prestigious engineering college with an expected branch. There are more than 700 engineering colleges and 30 plus engineering branches in Andhra Pradesh. Before joining in a particular college or selecting a prepared branch students and parents should concentrate on the following points.

1. The most important point is to check whether the college was approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA of AICTE. AICTE continuously strives to maintain the quality technical education in the country. NBA of AICTE aims to maintain level of some of the programs offered in technical institutions on par with program offered in institutions across USA and Europe.

2. Experienced faculty: This is another most important sole criteria to choose an engineering college. The faculty members must be well qualified and experienced with good domain knowledge and teaching experience and should be helpful to the students whenever they approach them.

3. Laboratory facilities: All the labs in the college should be well equipped with good conditioned equipment as per the university curriculum and for research purpose.

4. College infrastructure: A college with good buildings with well furnished and fully ventilated class rooms, clean and green and calm environment, spacious laboratories, library and good sports complex etc. which helps the student to improve dedication and concentration on studies are also important criterian.

5. Library facilities: Library is the main source to improve the knowledge of the students at the engineering level. Candidates have to learn a lot on their own. This will be possible if the library contains sufficient number of text books, reference books, journals and magazines.

6. College location : The engineering students have to face exams of various types frequently. Apart from College time, the student has to select free time in a day to complete other academic works. He should spend at least seven to eight hours in a day on writing the notes, record work and reading the books. The day scholars in the cities such as Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam loose several hours in journey. It is advisable to stay very near to the College to save valuable time. It is always better to stay in the hostel if it is located in the college premises.

7. Placements: After four years of hard work in an engineering course, ultimately many of the students expect jobs in good companies or prepare to go for higher education. Previous placement records and the interest of college managements in improving the are important factors.

8. Training Programmes: Colleges which are taking measures to improve communications skills of the students are better choice.

9. Personal computers and internet facility : In the present scenario every one should have exposure to PC and internet, irrespective of the branch. Lot of information is available in the internet to get good knowledge about your subject. Colleges has to provide PC and internet facility to all students whenever they like to get the information.

10. Hostel facility: Good facilities like spacious comfortable hostel rooms, healthy and hygienic food, medical facilities, creating study environment etc. and security is most important for girl students.

11. Industry – college interaction: Colleges arranging training programmes in good relevant industries to get hands on experience is another important factor. This will give an edge over other students. Arranging industrial tours for final and pre final students will be an added advantage.

12. Reputation and Experience of college: A track record of the college management gives good image to the student as well.

13. Environment: The friendly atmosphere among students and measures to maintain discipline by college management will give positive results in academics. College should encourage competitive spirit among students to attempt exams like GATE, GRE, CAT, IES, Public Sectors Exams etc.

14. Ragging: Proper measures should to taken by the college to curb the ragging incidents.

15. Curricular and Co – Curricular activities : Priority should be given to sports and entertainment by forming the clubs to conduct different activities. Students should be motivated to participate in various extra curricular activities.

Why is there a sudden rage of flash mobs in India?

this is from http://www.pravasitoday.com/why-is-there-a-sudden-rage-of-flash-mobs-in-india

If you're busy shopping at a packed marketplace and someone next to you breaks into a jig, don't fret, just join in! Chances are it may be a flash mob.

It is the latest publicity gimmick that many event management companies, social activists, TV channels and movie production houses are using to create a buzz among masses.

Flash mobs have been a tried-and-tested technique abroad, but in India it is a new concept. It first started at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus when close to 200 people began dancing to Bollywood chartbuster "Rang de Basanti" last month.

Since then the trend has caught on and travelled to various cities like Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi as well as the national capital.

"Flash mobs in my opinion are a great new way to reach out to the masses, although they shouldn't be conducted so often that they end up killin

g the element of surprise," Ayush Gupta of Cabbageheads, an event management firm which organised the flash mobs at the capital's Janpath and Priya complex, told IANS.

Even though police played spoilsport during their flash mob, there was a purpose behind the activity, says the 20-year-old.

"We organised the flash mob with the sole purpose of opening minds around. We wanted to set a trend – a trend which screams of being bold enough to try new things! People need to loosen up a bit. Go crazy every once in a while. That's what we had in mind when we organised Flash Mob Delhi," added Gupta.

The team of Zee TV's flagship reality show "Dance India Dance" had also organised "Dancemobs" to promote the third season of the show. A flash mob of over 50 people began dancing at the Rajouri Garden market in West Delhi. From college-goers, shopkeepers and residents, lots of people joined in the flash mob and danced to popular Bollywood chartbusters.

"As per our research, 'Dance India Dance' connects with audiences across ages and is driven by the youth target audience. Also, it's that time of the year when a lot of people are out shopping or partying. Hence it becomes easier for us to reach out to more number of people at one go," Akash Chawla, Zee Marketing Head-National Channels, told IANS.

"The highest recall value of a thing is when it happens by surprise. Besides this, tapping the new media in a big way, the Dancemob videos will be uploaded on various social networking sites as well, which will help us to further increase our audience base," added Chawla.

According to the dictionary, a flash mob is "a large group of people mobilised by social media to meet in a public place for the purpose of doing an unusual or entertaining activity of short duration."

People of varied age groups are using online social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter to organise such surprise dance activities.

At the capital's Sarojini Nagar, a group planned a flash mob against sexual harassment and female foeticide, and danced to "Sadda haq".

In Mumbai, southern star Dhanush led a flash mob and danced to his Tamil-English hit "Kolaveri di" to promote the film "3″, while in Kochi some enthusiasts danced to spread the message of peace.

The flash mobs are getting a lot of hits on YouTube.

Gupta feels "flash mobs will eventually fizzle out if they continue to happen at the rate they currently are."

"People should think new rather than follow the mob mentality. That's what'll make a difference," he added.

worldnews:Salford shooting: Fifth arrest over Anuj Bidve’s murder

A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Indian student Anuj Bidve in Manchester, a media report said Wednesday.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in the early hours today, says Mirror. Earlier, a 16-year-old boy, two boys aged 17 and a 19-year-old man were being held on suspicion of murder.

Hailing from Pune in India's Maharashtra state, Bidve was shot in the head while walking from his hotel in Salford area towards the Manchester city centre around 1.30 a.m. Dec 26. He died at a hospital a short while later.

Bidve was a postgraduate student in micro-electronics at Lancaster University.

In a statement, his family said Tuesday evening: "Anuj was a loving son, a super caring brother and first and forever friend for many. He valued his relationships and put them over anything else. He was the first person you could call when in trouble."

"Anuj loved to travel and loved his food. He loved to cook. He could easily bring a smile on anyone's face with his innocent jokes. He loved playing football. He enjoyed his time and life and is an inspiration for us to live life to its fullest," the statement said.

"His passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him."

Bidve was part of a group of nine students — all Indians — visiting Manchester for a short break for Christmas.
